Part D: Student Progress & Growth Monitoring
The primary purpose of ISD 194 testing is to provide information to help improve program design and personalize instruction to meet student needs. The testing program employs a variety of assessments and standardized tests. The data received from testing helps the District analyze student progress and District curriculum, learn which programs will be most helpful for each student, and hold the District accountable for offering the best possible education for all of students.
MDE/ISD 194 Assessment Calendars:
Our assessment calendar informs our community of the various testing windows or specific assessment dates for district-wide or school-wide testing. There are three main assessment “seasons”: Fall (September/October), Winter (January/February), and Spring (March-May). District assessments such as the NWEA – Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) are used to monitor student growth throughout an academic year and from year-to-year. The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs) are required for all students in Minnesota to determine student proficiency of academic standards.

ISD 194 documents each aspect of the four strategic goal areas: Academic Achievement, Community Connectedness, High Quality Workforce, and Fiscal Responsibility. Within each of those areas are Key Performance Indicators which we continually monitor our success:

The Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards define expectations for the educational achievement of public school students across the state in grades K-12. The standards and benchmarks are important because they: 1) identify the knowledge and skills that all students must achieve by the end of a grade level or grade band; 2) help define the course credit requirements for graduation; and, 3) serve as a guide for the local adoption and design of curricula. Student mastery of the standards is measured through state and local assessments. State standards are in place for English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies and physical education. State standards also are available in the arts, or districts may choose to develop their own. Local standards must be developed by districts for health, world languages, and career and technical education.

Minnesota students are required to complete three kinds of requirements by the time they graduate. Students must:
1. Satisfactorily complete the state course credit requirements under Minnesota Statutes, section 120B.024.
2. Satisfactorily complete all state academic standards or local academic standards where state standards do not apply.
3. Meet graduation assessment requirements.
