Principal’s Message

Welcome to Kenwood Trail Middle School

I am so glad that you are part of the Kenwood Trail Middle School community.  I am very proud of our school; our students and staff are top-notch.

The 2017-2018 school year marks my 32nd year in education.  I started my career teaching high school students English in Brainerd, Minnesota and in Dedham, Massachusetts.  In 1989, I was hired to teach 8th grade students English at what was then McGuire Junior High School here in Lakeville.  I taught at McGuire and then at Kenwood Trail Middle School until 1998 when I became Dean of Students at Kenwood Trail Middle School.  I have been principal at Kenwood Trail Middle School since January of 2009.

I grew up in Northfield, Minnesota, in a family of six kids.  I remember thinking that Lakeville was a tiny town back when my sophomore basketball team would travel up Cedar Avenue to play the girls from Lakeville.  Things have definitely changed!

I earned a BA in English Literature and my teaching license at Carleton College, an MEd. at the University of Minnesota, and an EdAdmin. specialist degree at Minnesota State University-Mankato.

My husband and I have two children; our daughter is a recent college graduate, and our son is a college student.  When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family, running, reading, Pilates, and baking.

We have two mottos at KTMS:  “Where Kids in the Middle Come First” and “Be Kenwood. Be Excellent!”  The KTMS staff strives to keep these mottos in mind as we work toward our goal of improving the learning of every KTMS student.  Please contact me whenever you have questions about KTMS or ideas that you would like to share.

Sincerely,

Kate Eisenthal, Principal
