Lakeville Area Public Schools will seek renewal of its 2007 levy referendum on Nov. 7, with early voting beginning Sept. 22.
Renewing the expiring 2007 referendum would translate to approximately $693 per pupil in funding the first year, said Andrew Sarnow, executive director of Business Services. The question includes an inflationary factor over the 10-year period.
Sarnow said renewal of this levy referendum would provide funding that is critical towards the district’s ability to sustain exceptional educational programs and services for students.
As a renewal, property taxpayers in the Lakeville Area Public Schools district likely will not see an increase in their school district portion of property taxes, Sarnow said.
The district will hold public hearings on the levy referendum at 7 p.m. on Sept. 21 at Lakeville South High School’s lecture hall to give voters chances to learn more about the use of funds and district’s overall financial health, Sarnow said. A second forum will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Elko New Market Library, 110 J. Roberts Way, Elko New Market. A third forum will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Lakeville North High School lecture hall (19600 Ipava Ave., Lakeville). All meetings are open to the public.
The district also is creating a five-year financial plan as part of the district’s commitment to transparency and fiscal responsibility. The intent behind the plan is to help the district in future projections and decision-making.
Twenty polling sites will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 7. To find polling sites, go to Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office poll finder. Voters may cast ballots via Early Voting starting Sept. 22, by mail or in person. Lakeville Area Public Schools voters may cast ballots in person at Lakeville City Hall (20195 Holyoke Ave., Lakeville) during normal business hours.
