District 194 Superintendent Michael A. Baumann recommends the hiring of Jason Bakke to be the next principal at Century Middle School in Lakeville pending formal Board of Education action May 22.
Bakke has been dean of students at Century Middle School since 2001 and was named acting principal in January. Bakke will officially take over as principal at Century May 23.
“The Century Middle School community is incredible,” said Bakke, who has two children currently attending the school. “I am humbled and honored to have the opportunity to work daily with the Century staff, students and community members to foster lifelong learning for our children.”
Prior to becoming a dean of students in Lakeville, Bakke worked as middle school English, math, science and social studies teacher and coached basketball and golf for Albert Lea Area Schools.
Bakke has a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Augustana College, earned his master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, and received his principal licensure from Minnesota State University Mankato.
Bakke has received professional recognition from the Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals. In 2017-18 he was named Minnesota Assistant Principal of the Year, and he was awarded the 2016-17 Capitol Division Assistant Principal of the Year.
“Jason is an enthusiastic leader dedicated to the success of our students and staff,” Baumann said. “I am confident Jason’s passion and skills will bring the best opportunities for growth and success for all Century students and he is a strong leader for the entire school community. I believe in Jason Bakke.”
