Early Childhood Screening

Important COVID-19 related announcement for Early Childhood Screening

Early Childhood Screening in-person appointments will be rescheduled as soon as allowable.  In the interim, those with children between the ages of three and kindergarten entry may schedule a phone appointment to complete the parent portion of the Early Childhood Screening.  A completed parent portion will result in a shorter screening time when in-person screening resumes. To schedule an Early Childhood Screening please enter your information here.  A screening team member will contact you after receiving your information.

Those families who had an appointment that was cancelled, have a child starting Kindergarten in the fall, or require Early Childhood Screening for an Early Learning Scholarship will be given priority appointments when screening resumes. For information on Early Childhood Screening visit our website, or email ecscreening@isd194.org.

What is Early Childhood Screening?

Early Childhood Screening is a FREE developmental screening required for all preschool-age children by the State of Minnesota prior to entry in kindergarten and some early childhood programs. The optimum age to screen is 3 ½ but children can be screened at age 3-5. Screening benefits children and families.

At your child’s screening appointment, a teacher and nurse will check your child’s:

  • Vision, hearing, height, and weight

  • Immunizations and health history

Early childhood developmental screening helps:

  • Parents confirm their child is on track with development
  • Connect you with early childhood programs and services
  • Answer your parenting questions
