Impact Academy at Orchard Lake

Information Night Presentation on Orchard Lake Elementary Transition

Important Update from Your Principal

Impact Academy at Orchard Lake will transition next school year to “Orchard Lake Elementary,” a standard K-5 neighborhood school. The Impact Academy program will still be offered as an option at Orchard Lake Elementary for families in grades 1-5 as space allows.

The intent of this letter is to collect information from you indicating your academic preference for next school year and to give you an update on changes to the options offered within your school area boundary.

School Building Programming Changes:

Beginning in the 2020-21 school year, all current and incoming Orchard Lake Elementary K-5 families will be guaranteed placement in the standard K-5 school model. Families with students in grades 1-5 will have the opportunity to be part of a selection process to continue in the Impact Academy program.

Please use the following form to indicate your student(s) preference to either be placed in the standard K-5 school model or participate in the selection process for the Impact Academy program for the 2020-21 school year. Please complete this form by Friday, February 7

Please be assured that every family that is currently in Impact Academy who indicates interest in the program will be considered for program placement before any new applications are considered. The complete process is detailed on the Impact Academy website.

Changes to the Boundary Area Options:

The transportation services currently provided from the Orchard Lake Elementary boundary area to Christina Huddleston Elementary School will be eliminated after the 2025-26 school year, not next school year as previously communicated from the district. Families who are currently enrolled at Christina Huddleston Elementary who choose to have their student(s) remain at Christina Huddleston Elementary after the 2025-26 school year will be required to provide their own transportation. Any new families who have moved into the Orchard Lake Elementary boundary area will not be guaranteed transportation services to or placement at any other school in the district. Instead, they will go through the district’s intra-district transfer request process if they would like to enroll in a school other than Orchard Lake Elementary.

Information Meeting

I’d like to invite you to an informational meeting, which will be held on January 30 at 5:30 p.m. to answer any questions your family may have regarding this transition. If you cannot attend the meeting, please find the FAQ below to provide you with some helpful information regarding this transition. Additionally, a recording of the presentation will be available on the school’s website early next week.
