Scholarships and Awards

Scholarships are financial awards that are given to students, that do not have to be repaid.  There are different scholarships that are awarded based on various criteria.

Common examples of criteria are: good grades, financial need, ethnic heritage, athletic or artistic talent or the degree that will be pursued in post secondary education. *Community service is the most common criteria required on scholarship applications.

By completing the 2019 LSHS Local Scholarship Application, students will automatically be eligible for these scholarships: 

Apple Autos Scholarship – 1 @ $2,500

Dakota Electric Association – 10 @ $1,000

Donald McGuire – 1 @ $600 – Applicant must be planning to attend DCTC

Herff Jones – 2 @ $500

JFK Elementary Alumni – 1 @ $750 – Applicant must be an alumni of JFK Elementary

Kopp Family Foundation – 5 @ $500

Lion Don McGuire Memorial – 5 @ $1,000

LVE Alumni – 2 @ $500 – Applicant must be an alumni of Lakeview Elementary

Lon Hitch Soccer Scholarship – 1 @ $500 – Applicant must have participated in Lakeville South Boys Soccer

 These Donor Applications require supplemental materials/ application in addition to the Local Application

Fairview Ridges Medical – 1 @ $1,500

Must be going into the medical field with a GPA of 3.5 or higher

Flint Hills Resources – 2 @ $2,500

GPA of 3.5 – Demonstrated academic success in the areas of math, science, technology and agriculture -Proven leadership skills – Interest and ability in the concept of entrepreneurship.

 Jacob Flynn Scholarship – 1 @ $5,000 

Jake Flynn was an outstanding student athlete who attended Lakeville South High School.  He excelled both academically and athletically.  This memorial scholarship has been established in his honor with an annual award given to two Lakeville South and two Lakeville North Student Athletes.

Lakeville Rotary “Service Above Self” – 2 @ $1,000

Unique leadership skills/achievements in the community – Volunteerism & helping others – Entrepreneurial spirit & attitude – Future plans, overcoming obstacles, financial & otherwise       

Lakeville South Boys Basketball Association – 2 @ $1,000

Awarded by LSBBA – Highly motivated student athlete – Leadership in the classroom and on the hardwood. Any boy who has ever been a LSBBA player with plans to attend college fall of 2019.

Submit an essay on: How has basketball positively impacted your life?

Lakeville South Girls Basketball Association – ? @ $1,000

Awarded by LSGBA – Highly motivated student athlete – Leadership in the classroom and on the hardwood. Any girl who has been involved in the Lakeville South Girls Basketball program at some point K-12.  Planning to attend college fall of 2019.

Submit an essay on the following questions:

  • How has basketball impacted your life and helped to prepare you for college?
  • How have you been involved with LSGBA on the court (ex: years played) and off the court (ex: volunteer involvement with LSGBA)?

Lakeville South Yearbook Leadership – 2 @ $2,000

2018 Essay topic:  How being on the Leadership Team of the Yearbook has influenced your life.

Lakeville South Yearbook  Staff – 2 @ $1,000

2018 Essay topic:  How being on the Yearbook Staff has influenced your life.

Nate Rasmussen – 1 @ $1,500

Nate Rasmussen was a 1993 graduate of LHS.  He was a 3 sport athlete; football, hockey and baseball.  He was also a member of the National Honor Society and a spokesperson for D.A.R.E.   After high school he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers and played 2 years of minor league baseball.   He then enrolled at St. John’s University, where he played football for the Johnnies and graduated Magna Cu Laude.  Nate went to work for Target Corporation, becoming a manager at their corporate office in Minneapolis.

Robert Innes Memorial – 2 @ $1,000

The Robert Innes scholarship is available to any boy or girl who has grown up in a rural setting, been involved in agriculture or been a member of your local 4 H club.

Submit an essay on: How farming has influenced your life.  

The Zibley Family Scholarship – 2 @ $1,500

Scholarships will be granted to one male and one female student who have been accepted to the University of Minnesota.
