Scholarships are financial awards that are given to students, that do not have to be repaid. There are different scholarships that are awarded based on various criteria.
Common examples of criteria are: good grades, financial need, ethnic heritage, athletic or artistic talent or the degree that will be pursued in post secondary education. *Community service is the most common criteria required on scholarship applications.
**The 2020 LSHS Local Senior Scholarship Application is closed**
Recipients were notified (along with their parents/guardians) via email on April 30, 2020
By completing the 2020 LSHS Local Scholarship Application, students were automatically eligible for the following scholarships:
Apple Autos Scholarship – 1 @ $2,500
Dakota Electric Association – 10 @ $1,000
JFK Elementary Alumni – 1 @ $500 – Applicant must be an alumni of JFK Elementary
Kopp Family Foundation – 5 @ $500
Lakeville Lions Terry Langhorst Memorial – 5 @ $1,000
Lon Hitch Soccer Scholarship – 1 @ $500 – Applicant must have participated in Lakeville South Boys Soccer
These Donor Applications required supplemental materials/application in addition to the Local Application.
Elko New Market Fire Department Relief Association Scholarship – 2 @ $1,000
Applicant must have an intended area of study geared toward helping others; community service, EMS System (EMT, Medic, etc.). Health Care, Emergency Management, Firefighting, Law Enforcement
Fairview Ridges Medical – 1 @ $1,500
Must be going into the medical field with a GPA of 3.5 or higher
Jake Flynn Scholarship – 1 @ $5,000, 1 @ $2,500
Jake Flynn was an outstanding student athlete who attended Lakeville South High School. He excelled both academically and athletically. This memorial scholarship has been established in his honor with annual awards given to two Lakeville South and two Lakeville North Student Athletes.
Finalists will interview in Student Services between 2:45 pm-5:00 pm on Wednesday, April 1, 2020.
Lakeview Elementary Alumni – 1 @ $1,000 – Applicant must be an alumni of Lakeview Elementary
Lakeville Rotary “Service Above Self” – 2 @ $1,000
Unique leadership skills/achievements in the community – Volunteerism & helping others – Entrepreneurial spirit & attitude – Future plans, overcoming obstacles, financial & otherwise
Lakeville South Boys Basketball Association – 2 @ $1,000
Awarded by LSBBA – Highly motivated student athlete – Leadership in the classroom and on the hardwood. Any boy who has ever been a LSBBA player with plans to attend college fall of 2020.
Submit an essay on: How has basketball positively impacted your life?
Lakeville South Girls Basketball Association – Multiple @ $1,000
Awarded by LSGBA – Highly motivated student athlete – Leadership in the classroom and on the hardwood. Any girl who has been involved in the Lakeville South Girls Basketball program at some point K-12. Planning to attend college fall of 2020.
Submit an essay on the following questions:
- How has basketball impacted your life and helped to prepare you for college?
- How have you been involved with LSGBA on the court (ex: years played) and off the court (ex: volunteer involvement with LSGBA)?
Nate Rasmussen – 1 @ $2,000
Nate Rasmussen was a 1993 graduate of LHS. He was a 3 sport athlete; football, hockey and baseball. He was also a member of the National Honor Society and a spokesperson for D.A.R.E. After high school he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers and played 2 years of minor league baseball. He then enrolled at St. John’s University, where he played football for the Johnnies and graduated Magna Cu Laude. Nate went to work for Target Corporation, becoming a manager at their corporate office in Minneapolis.
Nate Rasmussen was tragically killed in a car accident on May 18, 2002 and this scholarship was set up in his memory by family and friends.
Applicants must have at least a B+ average and have participated in a sport.
N.E.W. Lions Club Scholarship- 1 @ $1,000
Applicant must have a mailing address of New Market, Elko, or Webster. Be a resident of New Market or Webster Townships (address may be different than New Market, Elko, or Webster.) Be the son/daughter of a N.E.W. Lions Club member.
Red Cross – ?? @ $??? (number and amount depend on how much is raised during both blood drives)
Applicants must have helped in the administration of the Red Cross Blood Drives and be a Student Council/ HOSA Representative.
Submit a one page essay on: How has the blood drive affected you? What is the importance of the Blood Drive?
Robert Innes Memorial – 1 @ $1,000
The Robert Innes scholarship is available to any boy or girl who has grown up in a rural setting, been involved in agriculture or been a member of your local 4 H club.
