COVID-19 Update: November 6

Lakeville Area Schools Families,

On Thursday, November 5, the Minnesota Department of Health released the latest 14-day average case rates by county. For the first time, Lakeville Area Schools has surpassed the threshold identified by the State (30 cases per 10,000 people) for secondary students to move to distance learning. The State’s case numbers indicate the case rate in Dakota County is at 33.40 and Scott County is at 37.32. Unfortunately, case numbers for our two counties are continuing to increase rapidly. Knowing this, and taking into account the increasing case and quarantine counts within Lakeville Area Schools, we are actively preparing to shift all secondary students to full-time distance learning within weeks.

On Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m., I will provide the Board of Education an update on COVID-19 in Lakeville Area Schools. In this presentation, I will share our local county and district data and present an overview of what a transition to distance learning for grades 6-12 would look like. This presentation will include information on supporting our most vulnerable learners, student activities, and a timeline with calendar changes for the secondary students.

Thank you for all you are doing to support your student in the difficult times. I will provide all families with the finalized plan next week.
