District-QA1 Partnership Creating Face Shields for Healthcare Workers

This spring, Lakeville Area Schools has been partnering with local auto part manufacturer, QA1, to make face shields for healthcare and frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nearly 300 face shields are now ready to be sent out to those workers.

The first batch of masks will be donated to Farmington Police Department, Allina Health, Highview Hills community, Kingsley Shores community, M Health Fairview, Lakeville Family Eye Care, Pilot Knob Dental Care, Lakeville Advanced Dental Care, The Moments community, PhiMart, Traditions of Waterville and the Cottages of Dakota community.

This effort began earlier this spring. 3D printers from Lakeville North and South High Schools were sent to QA1. Engineers then used them to make important parts for the face shields. In April, QA1 shared photos of the 3D printers in action. QA1 will keep printing more face shield parts through the summer to reach their goal of creating and donating at least 1,000 face shields.

Lakeville Area Schools is proud to have so many great business and community partnerships. Together we can all do something meaningful for the health and safety of the community.
