Lakeville Area Residents Approve School District Funding Requests

Lakeville, Minn. — Voters approved the Lakeville Area Schools request on Nov. 5 for additional funding to expand opportunities for students and enhance safety and security district-wide through an operating levy and bond referendum.

The operating levy increase will generate $345 per pupil, or $4.27 million per year for 10 years, plus inflation. The bond referendum will authorize $42.9 million. In total, the tax impact will be $19 per month on an average home in the district, which is valued at $370,000.

“We are tremendously grateful to our community for their incredible support,” said Superintendent Michael Baumann. “This funding will help us ensure the success and safety of every student, and shows our residents value public education across this community.”

The additional funding will help Lakeville Area Schools:

  • provide more electives for middle school students by hiring 25 more teachers and providing access to new offerings like world languages and coding,

  • increase elementary teaching and learning resources to support ever-increasing enrollment,

  • restore full-time counselors in every elementary school and will fund the implementation of social-emotional learning (SEL) district-wide,

  • increase school security by hiring a School Resource Officer to work in our middle schools, and a School Psychologist to facilitate a threat assessment process district-wide,

  • maintain student/staff devices, and improve technology systems and networks through the hiring of additional IT staff,

  • construct school safety enhancements and security systems in our schools to minimize the impact of a threat,

  • upgrade our information technology network to meet cybersecurity, fiber optic and disaster recovery requirements,

  • construct an additional gymnasium to McGuire Middle School,

  • construct a pool to Century Middle School, and

  • construct artificial turf practice fields at Lakeville North and Lakeville South High School.
