Hundreds of Lakeville Area students took time out of their school days to help feed hungry people all over the world by packing meals for Feed My Starving Children.
The nonprofit was in Lakeville for a week-long MobilePack event at Hosanna Lutheran Church from Monday, January 27 through Saturday, February 1. A Lakeville graduate, Madeline Mowrey, helped organize and supervised this Feed My Starving Children packing event. The group had a goal of packing more than 2 million meals over the course of the week. Lakeville Area students were among the thousands of volunteers who helped pack MannaPacks throughout the week. Each MannaPack contains vitamins, vegetables, soy, and rice.
On Tuesday, 330 8th graders from McGuire Middle School helped pack 108,000 meals. Feed My Starving Children says that’s enough to feed 284 kids to eat for a whole year!
On Thursday, all five 1st grade classrooms from Lakeview Elementary packed 85,536 meals, which is enough to feed 234 kids for a year.
On Friday, Century Middle School 8th graders also packed around 85,000 meals, which will feed around 234 kids for a year.
In all, Lakeville Area students packed around 278,000 meals for hungry people around the world, which would be enough to feed 752 kids for a full year.
