The Lakeville North High School Best Buddies after-school club received a generous $5,000 donation from a district parent on Friday, October 23. The donation was given by Darcy Riese, a longtime supporter of Best Buddies and special education in the district.
Best Buddies is an after-school club at Lakeville North that matches high school students with their peers with disabilities. This year around 100 students expressed interest in joining the club, which is run by twelve student officers. The club does events for students with disabilities like prom, bowling, movies, school events sponsored by Special Olympics, and so much more.
Riese’s donation will help fund all of these activities. Riese also provides four scholarships a year for seniors who plan to get a degree in special education.
