At its regular meeting on January 26, the Lakeville Area Board of Education approved the Superintendent’s recommendation to bring a request to residents for local tax dollars to purchase land and build a new elementary school in a special election on May 11. This decision followed many school building planning discussions over the last 18-months based upon the growth of new homes in the Lakeville area and the resulting significant capacity challenges across the district’s eight elementary schools. Enrollment projections indicate 1,000 more elementary students will be attending Lakeville Area Schools by 2025. If approved by voters, the bond would provide funding to build a ninth elementary school in the district.
Lakeville Area Schools will prepare informational materials, including a referendum website, and host opportunities to help inform Lakeville Area residents about the request leading up to the May 11 vote.
