Following a rigorous selection process that involved many stakeholders, Lakeville Area Schools Superintendent Michael Baumann announced on August 20 the hiring of Shaun Murphy to be the next principal at Lakeville South High School pending formal School Board action August 27.
Murphy is currently Dean of Students at Lakeville South High School, where he has worked since 2009. He will officially take over as principal at Lakeville South on August 28.
Murphy said, “I have had the honor of being a part of the Lakeville South community for the past ten years and am excited to lead a community so committed to the success of our students.”
Prior to becoming a Dean of Students, Murphy worked as a Special Education Lead at Lakeville South from 2009-2010 and as a Special Education teacher at Lakeville North from 2003-2009. Prior to serving in Lakeville Area Schools, Murphy was an autism teacher for the South St. Paul school district.
Murphy earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Studies and Psychology from St. Olaf College in Northfield and his Master of Arts degree from the University of St. Thomas in Special Education. Additionally, Murphy holds two Education Specialists degrees from the University of St. Thomas in the areas of K-12 Administration and Special Education Directorship.
“Shaun is an outstanding instructional leader who is dedicated to the success of all students,” Baumann said. “I am confident that with his leadership, Lakeville South will continue to do great things for students.”
Murphy will replace Dr. John Braun who is retiring after serving as principal at Lakeville South High School for the past five years.
