The Open Door Wraps Up Successful Summer of Delivering Meals to Lakeville Area Community

Open Door Summer RecapLakeville Area Schools would like to thank The Open Door for their amazing partnership and for stepping to help feed our community throughout summer. The non-profit organization’s Mobile Lunch Box, with the help of volunteers that included Lakeville Area Schools staff, delivered more than 7,000 meals in five Lakeville area neighborhoods over the summer!

This was a community connected effort across the board. The Lakeville Area Chamber of Commerce and Lakeville Rotary Club helped Open Door purchase meals from the local Rudy’s Redeye Grill, Subway, Buffalo Wild Wings, Barley and Vine, and Lakeville Brewing Co. All Saints Catholic Church opened their kitchen to prepare meals too.

Those meals were then delivered to five local neighborhoods: Lakeville Court Apartments, Queen Anne Courts, Connelly’s Mobile Home Park, Sunny Acres, and Greenhaven Park.

Families who received meals say The Open Door increased their access to healthy food and reduced their food expenses.

Additionally, The Open Door held four drive-thru produce distributions. Three of these were held at Eastview Elementary and Lakeview Elementary, serving more than 800 families, a total of 3,470 individuals!

In total across Dakota County, The Open Door delivered more than 38,000 meals to 18 neighborhoods, five days a week across three school districts.

Lakeville Area Schools can’t thank The Open Door enough for what it did for students in our community this summer during such challenging times.
