Two Lakeville South High School seniors have received full-ride scholarships to their colleges of choice. In the fall Imen Kedir will be attending Stanford University and Obsune Usso will be attending Macalester College.
Both students are participants in the AVID program at Lakeville Area Schools. AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a College Preparation System that closes the achievement, expectation, and opportunity gaps many students face. Imen and Obsune are also co-presidents of the Lakeville South Student Voices group, which empowers students who feel disconnected to the current school culture with an opportunity to share their voice during the school day and to participate in a unifying effort that encourages a culture of respect, tolerance, and cultural curiosity.
Imen and Obsune recieved scholarships through the QuestBridge Scholars program, which had 18,500 students apply in the summer, 6,885 applicants continue as finalists, and ultimately 1,464 students were matched with a college and offered a full-ride scholarship.
Congratulations Imen and Obsune!
