For school closings, early dismissals and late starts, watch/listen for information on these media outlets:
If weather is so severe that schools need to close, families will also be alerted in three ways as soon as a decision is made:
- A phone call, text message and email (if opted in) will be sent to all families.
- A message will be posted on the homepage of isd194.org.
- Messages will be posted on the Lakeville Area Schools Facebook and Twitter pages.
As a general rule, schools will be canceled or delayed if the air temperature is -25 degrees Fahrenheit or colder or the wind chill is -35 degrees Fahrenheit or colder.
After the first snow day of the school year, the Superintendent may call a Flexible Learning (FLEX) Day for K-12 students. On FLEX Days, students will continue to learn from home by completing online or offline assignments given by their teachers. The three notification methods listed above will indicate whether the day will be a FLEX Day or a typical snow day. Please visit the FLEX Days page for more information.
We know that closing schools can be disruptive, especially for working families. Student and staff safety is our primary concern. Ultimately, the decision to send children to school remains with families. Lakeville Area Schools supports those decisions that are made for the safety and health of students. There are no negative consequences, and our schools work with families to assure that work is made up when an absence is safety-related.
